pjfamily day 2011 @rumbia resort, paka - Day 1

this year, Baba's family day was held at Rumbia Resort, Paka for 3 days and 2 nights.. you may think that there's nothing much to do at Paka, well you are totally wrong..

we were all ready as early as 8am to begin the long journey... before heading straight to Paka, we decided to have a break at Chemerong Waterfall, one of the highest waterfalls in Malaysia... it was not that hard to get there, but there was not enough signage leading to that place... i was surprise to see the crowd when we reached there...

Chemerong Waterfall Park

managed to dip-in the cool water

i really recommend this park to all nature lovers out there... i'm definitely going to revisit this place again one day...

once we have settled down at Rumbia Resort, we headed to the jetty for our first activity, river cruising... since only limited people can fill in a boat at one time, so we took the 2nd ride..  while waiting for the boat to come back with the 1st ride, we just chilled-out at the riverside..

chillax with my aunties..

river cruising...

the river cruise was wavy, wet and FUN!!

that's all for day 1.. watch out for my next entry for the rest of the story... :)

toot-toot and batrick

For the past 3 years (including this year), my birthday falls during Ramadan month.. no party, no balloons, no bundle of presents.. only cake and close family breaking fast together..

I've been telling Umi and Baba what I wanted for my 4th birthday (last August) since early this year..

and they gave me a pair of this... TADAAAAAA!!!

teenage mutant ninja turtles!!

YES, I got what I've always wanted... tiny turtles!! (actually these are tortoises, turtles only live in the sea.. I call them turtles because it is easier to pronounce..)

The small one is Toot-Toot while the big one is named Batrick.. NOT Patrick (like in spongebob), but Batrick.. hehe...

the top one is Toot-Toot, while the bottom one is Batrick...

I have to feed them once a day with these small little tortoise food.. I don't like the smell of it but for the sake of Toot-Toot and Batrick, I just need to bear with it.. every 2 days, I have to clean their small tank and replace with clean water.. this is tough job and a new responsibility to me.. but i enjoy every minute of it as long as I can keep them.. :)

Lately, for 2 weeks now, Toot-Toot refused to eat.. I don't know why.. I even tried to separate both of them to ensure each will eat their portion of food equally, if not Batrick will finish it all.. yesterday when i got back from the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale, Toot-Toot was not moving at all, just sit there frozen.. even when I held it on my palm, still no movement.. Umi said that Toot-Toot was dead..

Baba told me that we have to bury Toot-Toot.. me thinking, why do we need to bury it? What if Toot-Toot wakes up in the soil and couldn't open his/her eyes, and couldn't find any water?... Umi explained that Toot-Toot is no longer alive in this world.. Allah will be taking it to syurga and meet other turtles... hmmmm, I sure hope there's water in syurga...

the funeral.. somewhere at the back of our 'tall' house..

things to do in east coast malaysia

yes, i know.. this might be the longest i've ever left this blog cold-stoned.. insya Allah, starting today i'll update regularly..

so far most of my trips involved the east coast area.. maybe because Baba's side of the family is from there.. and the main reason going there is to attend a family event.. so if you are on your way to the east coast, here are some activities that you can do..

1. breakfast hai peng style
if you are on your way to Terengganu or going back to KL from Terengganu in the morning, make sure you stop at Kedai Kopi Hai Ping, Kemaman for a nice breakfast.. adults will love the aromatic coffee.. while i enjoy eating their nasi dagang and yummy kuih..

having breakfast before starting of a long journey...

2. learn more about sea-turtles
east coast is famous with the habitats of sea-turtles.. so why not stop by and visit one of the turtle sanctuary available along the main coastal road.. most of these sanctuary are free entry and maintained by the government.. last May, i went to Cherating Turtle Sanctuary which is next to Club Med Cherating..

one of the mama-turtle..

if you're lucky, you might have the chance to see these little guys..

they were 3 days old... so tiny and cute.. and blind..

they separate the turtles by size and age

and if you reached there at the right time, you might have the chance to feed them..

before leaving the place, donate some cash to help save the turtles.. your RM1 can make a difference..

3. fun at the beach
the east coast is well-known with its sandy and windy beaches.. no need to further elaborate about that.. my family love the beach, who doesn't, right? besides than strolling, swimming, snorkeling, scuba-diving, surfing... what can a 4-year-old do at the beach?

kite flying of course!! thanks to Uncle Halim, a friend of Baba's.. we have been borrowing and keeping his kite for more than 2 years now.. hehe

windy beach, perfect for kite flying..

4. learn about the heritage of terengganu (i am 4, so i need to learn a lot of stuff...)

welcome to the State Museum of Terengganu

this is not just a big old house, it is the state museum with loads of ancient artifacts.. the building itself is ancient.. the place is huge.. you need half a day to cover each inch of the museum.. we didn't spend long in there as we were so hungry and tired at that time, hence the lack of photos.. hehe

5. visit the Crystal Mosque
Umi and Baba always prefer to solat at mosque while travelling.. and everytime we are at Kuala Terengganu, we never miss this place for a prayer or two.. this place is located at the Islamic Heritage Park, well known as Taman Tamadun Islam in Wan Man Island.. they have this miniature buildings of famous mosque and building in islamic countries all around the world.. i have yet to visit this place, because everytime i reach here, it is scorching hot.. so maybe next time..
